Alfresco Living in Small Homes

In today’s Singapore with its limited resources and space, many new home owners are living in small homes. Hence a need for a quality and space-saving residential concept is often one of the most important things to do in home owners’ checklists. The demand for small furniture is also on the rise. Despite limited living spaces, smaller alfresco furniture helps to give your space a kind of resort feel.

Here are 5 tips to make an alfresco corner in a small home.

1) Add some greens

Add some potted plants, (real or unreal plants); decorate the wall spaces with greens and plants like what you had seen in major green building projects; it will be cool if you can do a mini version of it!   Get a small turf carpet grass for your alfresco corner so that it will seems as a natural partition that separates your living hall with your alfresco corner.

2) Small bistro set is Okay

Nowadays smaller bistro sets (usually with a coffee table and two outdoor chairs) are more popular than the larger dining sets. The value of having an alfresco corner in your home helps to make living in city life Singapore a relaxing haven with a unique alfresco corner of your own. Larger dining sets require lots of space so a smaller bistro set is good enough for a simple dining experience by the alfresco.

3) Don’t forget the Swing!

The most convenient location to place the swing chair will be the corner of the room! It can be in the living hall as well as the master bedroom for some intimate setting. Swing chair gives the feeling of relaxation in the home! Overall, a little swing can make your home resort looking good.

4) Water-y good

We cannot put a swimming pool into our small spaces but we can make use of nice authentic water feature or mini fountains. Some say it’s good for the fengshui. While some say water feature helps to relax the mind, heart and soul. Well, it is up to the home owners to decide which is good for them. As some water feature products are bulky, it is important to not go for the over-sized one. A rule of the thumb is to make sure the water feature takes only about 20% of your entire alfresco corner.

5) Daybedding

Daybeds are created for the alfresco area as intimate corners in the living hall or the bedrooms. They are usually relatively bigger as compared to swing chairs and bistro sets. So it is important for the home owners to go for smaller daybeds. Like a hotel setting, a bed and a daybed will definitely drive up the romantic mood for the room. If the home owners of small homes wanted to have a daybed, they can go with a smaller bed or sofa set. In this way, they can have the benefits of both worlds.

In summary,

Alfresco living in small homes is the new trend today! It tells us that even if we are living in small spaces, with an eye of detail and a love for alfresco living, nothing is impossible!
