Humanitarian Vessel Vega holds 120 th birthday celebrations at Boat Asia Boat Show in Singapore
This April Vega will be officially be 120 years old and we have a few things planned to celebrate her birthday during the big Boat Asia Boat Show in Singapore. That is Asia's largest and most spectacular lifestyle and yachting show and runs from the 12 - 15 of April at the Marina at Keppel Bay. Thanks to the kind assistance of MyNewsDesk.com Vega's birthday will be even more interesting with a visit from Lars Nerhus, the great grandson of Vega's designer and builder Ole Nerhus. Lars - who is from Olve, Norway - will be bringing along several interesting relics of Vega's history including her original award winning half model and a lovely oil painting done by her first captain - his grandfather - Jens Nerhus. If you are in Singapore during those dates plan on visiting us at the Boat Asia to meet Lars and hear some of the amazing tales of Vega's history as well as her current humanitarian works.

Built at Olve, Norway in 1891-92, for over 100 years VEGA carried cargos of bricks, building stone, pig iron, and cement through some of the world’s roughest seas. Built for the North Sea and certified for Arctic trade, VEGA was famous for her strength and ability to carry loads other boats her size could not. Baltic traders like VEGA made some very impressive voyages including immigrants to North America and cargos to the Mediterranean, Africa and the Caribbean, some rounding Cape Horn to trade with Chile.
