Embracing New Frontiers

Sunday, 23 March 2014 – The weekend unfolded a new start for HSL’s 1,000 staff and workers.  It saw the relocation of the HSL HQ from Gul Lane to the new waterfront base in Penjuru.

The occasion marked a joyous yet humbling milestone for the management and staff.  Joyous – for the successful shifting to the brand new 375,000sf 5-storey complex, to position it for the next journey of growth; and humbled - by the struggles, sacrifices, strengths and sound stewardship of its founders which had brought HSL to its current standing.

CEO Charles Quek paid tribute to the pioneers, “We owe our eternal gratitude to our founders for laying a firm foundation for sustainable growth and giving others the chance to be something more.  I must also thank them for placing their faith in me to enhance the brightness of the HSL torch which I had accepted from Mr Lim Choo Leng, our new Chairman”.

The newly-appointed CEO shared and assured that he and the new management team, will not only formulate and strategise a more structured regionalisation approach to identify and penetrate new markets to help build ‘A greater HSL’, but also address the new mission to effectively fulfil the second part of HSL’s Vision – A better world – through a dedicated philanthropy unit and a new Foundation.  The structured regionalisation approach will be supported by the new investment of $15 million from Dymon Asia.

Charles thanked all the staff for their dedication and contributions.  In the same breath, he urged them to embrace, engage and explore these new frontiers together.  He concluded, “HSL belongs to all of us.  We have done well thus far, but we must aim for better.  And the only thing that is going to work is – TEAMWORK”!

In the spirit of embracing the new frontiers, the staff took turns to pen on the Wishing Canvass to record their pride, gratitude, hopes and aspirations.
