Russian students visits MDIS School of Technology & E-learning

The MDIS School of Technology and E-Learning (STEL) hosted our Russian friends when they visited the MDIS campus on 1st and 3rd July 2014. Aside from being shown around the many state-of-the-art facilities that MDIS has to offer its students, these students were also given the opportunity to learn more about animation from STEL lecturer Mr James Chew in an on-the-spot workshop.

After several hours of playing around with MAYA (an animation software often used for games, movies and other large-scale animation projects), most of the students finally got the hang of using the technically-demanding software and managed to animate a jumping box: a task that may sound easy, but is actually quite challenging! They were also treated to a video from Walt Disney Studios introducing them to the twelve basic principles of animation, and learnt how to perfectly imitate the illusion of life through animation.

The workshop proved to be a hit, and many of our overseas guests have said that they would definitely come back to MDIS as digital media students in the future. We look forward to seeing them again, and hope that they had as much fun visiting Singapore as we had hosting them!
