Singapore Bruce Lee Event

On January 7^th, 2011, Montegrappa held the inaugural launch of the ICONS 2010 Bruce Lee Dragon pen in Singapore. The event took place at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center, a venue most befitting the debut of one of the most sought after collectible writing instruments in the world.

Hosted by Mr. Candi Kum, CEO of Aquila Brands Singapore Pte Ltd, the event attracted distinguished guests including His Excellency Mr. Anacleto Felicani, Ambassador to Singapore from the Italian Embassy and his wife; Mr. Giuseppe Aquila, CEO of Elmo Montegrappa S.p.A.; Mr. Jean Alesi, F1 legend, Ambassador and investor of Elmo Montegrappa S.p.A.; and Mr Thomas Arasi, President and CEO of Marina Bay Sands Singapore, as well as local celebrities and pen connoisseurs.

The evening commenced off with cocktails at 6.30pm, with Prosecco served to celebrate this glorious occasion in a truly Italian fashion. With the arrival of the Guest of Honour, his Excellency Mr. Anacleto Felicani, Ambassador to Singapore from the Italian Embassy and his wife, guests were seated in the Melati Ballroom.

Host Mr. Candi Kum provided the welcoming speech, followed by Mr. Giuseppe Aquila and Mr. Jean Alesi. His Excellency Mr. Anacleto Felicani, was invited on stage to join in the unveiling of the Montegrappa ICONS 2010 Bruce Lee Dragon.

A sumptuous Italian dinner followed, served with fine Italian wines, while the guests enjoyed entertainment provided by Donna Daniels, an international singing sensation from Australia. A highlight of the evening was a pugilistic performance by Junior WuShu exponents from the WuFang School of Martial Arts. Thrilled and bewildered by the precise demonstration of martial arts from these very talented young students, the audience sat in awe, with ongoing applause punctuating the display.

A touching moment ensued when a specially-produced Bruce Lee Dragon Pen in Yellow Celluloid and Sterling Silver was revealed for auction in aid of the WuFang School of Martial Arts “Touch Bursary”. This bursary was set up to provide assistance to outstanding students with financial difficulties, to enable them to continue both education and training.

A casual bid of S$5,000 opened the auction, with bidders enthusiastically outbidding each other for a good cause. The climax arrived when Mr. Franck Manichon made a large bid of S$20,000 from S$18,000 to ensure victory. Applauds and accolades were heard throughout the ballroom as Mr. Manichon won the rights to the Yellow Pen. Mr. Manichon said, “anything for a good cause!” Montegrappa would like to thank Mr. Manichon for his kindness and generosity in aid of the WuFang School of Martial Arts “Touch” Bursary.

A wonderful night of pens, food, wine, entertainment and, above all, enjoyable company ended with Mr. Candi Kum thanking the distinguished guests for contributing to the success of the Montegrappa ICONS 2010 Bruce Lee Dragon inaugural launch in Singapore.

Mr. Candi Kum, age 43, has been involved with Montegrappa since 1996 and has spent time living at Bassano del Grappa in Italy, working with Mr. Giuseppe Aquila and his family. He was also the Asia Pacific Managing Director of Montegrappa, based in Hong Kong during the term of Richemont ownership. Mr. Kum has relocated to Singapore.
