Panasonic Delivers "Power Supply Station" Stand-alone Photovoltaic Power Package to Indonesia as a Power Source for Water Purification System

Sumbawa, Indonesia, 23 May 2017 – Panasonic Corporation today announced that it will start providing the Power Supply Station, a stand-alone photovoltaic power package, to the village of Rarak Ronges Brang Rea, West Sumbawa, Indonesia.

This unit was donated to the village by the Farmers Association for Development Foundation of Indonesia. The donation was made possible via the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects1 in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia.

In the village of Rarak Ronges, well-water is a daily necessity. However, maintaining a stable supply of clean water has always been a challenge due to factors such as water pollution caused by sewage from nearby toilets and the depletion of underground water during the dry season.

To ensure a stable supply of clean water, the Farmers Association for Development Foundation had recently adopted a Yamaha Clean Water Supply System, which is designed to purify river water and is offered globally by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. This Yamaha Clean Water Supply System is powered by Panasonic’s Power Supply Station, which is equipped with 12 Panasonic HIT® solar modules and can output approximately 3 kW of electricity. It is also equipped with 24 storage batteries (approximately 17 kWh), enabling it to supply stored power. The water purification system utilizes Panasonic pumps to draw water from a water source or the nearby river.

The Power Supply Station is capable of running the Yamaha Clean Water Supply System for 24 hours to ensure a stable supply of clean water for the Rarak Ronges village. Therefore, the clean water can be sold to neighboring areas for additional income and thus improving the living environment in Brang Rea.

Besides supplying power to the Yamaha Clean Water Supply System, the Power Supply Station also provide power to the local community through a shared electrical outlet. This will not only help ensure safe and secure living conditions, but also contribute to the revitalization of communities by improving the lives of the people in the village. Panasonic will also initiate proposals to facilitate the development of off-grid areas in Indonesia and around the world. With the use of the Power Supply Station, Panasonic aims to generate synergies within the Panasonic Group, in terms of expansion of the electronics and other existing businesses.

[Overview of the Power Supply Station stand-alone photovoltaic power package]
The Power Supply Station is equipped with 12 Panasonic HIT® solar modules and can output approximately 3 kW of electricity during peak sunlight. It is also equipped with 24 storage batteries (approximately 17 kWh), enabling it to supply stored power.

[Features of the Power Supply Station stand-alone photovoltaic power package]

(1) Stable quality and performance achieved by production at the factory
The Power Supply Station was developed as a mass produced product to deliver and assure stable quality overseas.
The unit for this project was manufactured and its quality was controlled by our Indonesian subsidiary, PT. Panasonic Gobel Eco Solutions Manufacturing Indonesia, before deliver it to the village of Rarak Ronges.

(2) Simple and quick assembly for portability and expansion
The station was designed to eliminate the need for on-site professional construction work , allowing for a quick and easy installation by an electrical contractor.

(3) Utilization of proven Panasonic technologies
The station uses Panasonic HIT® solar modules to provide power efficiently, even in restricted spaces. The company's in-house-developed demand controller monitors the remaining electricity level of the lead-acid storage batteries and controls supply and demand, thus reducing the battery deterioration. This reduces the life-cycle cost and maintenance man-hours needed for the storage batteries.
