Asia Is King in LNG Sector

SINGAPORE – 10 OCTOBER 2013 – The recent CWC World LNG Series – Asia Pacific Summit (LNG Asia), held in Singapore 24-26 September 2013, brought to prominence the emergence of Asia as a dominant player in the global LNG sector.  The three-day summit attracted participation from more than 300 business conglomerates to government diplomats as delegates, representing over 25 countries.

Singapore was represented by dominant players, including the newly launched Pavilion Energy, a $1-billion LNG investment unit formed by Temasek Holdings; the Energy Market Authority and Singapore LNG, who also jointly won CWC’s LNG Innovation Asia Pacific Award.

Ideas were exchanged at LNG Asia that will take root into business. For example, Rajeev Mathur, Executive Director, GAIL, India predicts that East Africa will be the next big player in the LNG sector.  Andrew Seck, Assistant Director, East of Suez Marketing, Qatargas said that Asia is seen to be increasingly evolving into the primary destination for many corporations engaged in the business of LNG.

Singapore’s position as a hub for international LNG business was lauded at the conference. The country is seen to be well-positioned to capitalize on business opportunities due to its infrastructure and investments.
