Sweat No More: New Treatment MiraDry Launches in Singapore to Eliminate Underarm Sweat

Singapore, 13 March 2014 – Bothered by underarm sweat? Consciously make professional and/or lifestyle choices to ease your embarrassment? Well don’t sweat it any longer!  MiraDry, a revolutionary solution to eliminate embarrassing underarm sweat officially launches in Singapore today, following the results of a recent study which revealed 85% of Singaporeans are bothered by excessive sweat[1].

The MiraDry treatment is a safe, clinically proven solution with immediate results, approved by FDA (in 2011) and CE that is quick and non-surgical, delivering precisely controlled microwave energy to the sweat glands in the underarms. The treatment was first launched in the US in 2012 as a solution for Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis, a medical condition where more underarm sweat is produced than is needed to cool the body, and is also perfect for hot and humid climates like Singapore where excessive underarm sweat are commonplace. The launch of MiraDry finally offers a long lasting alternative to silent suffering.

Traditionally, sweat is a topic people are embarrassed or reluctant to discuss, which exacerbates the situation as they are unaware of the medical options and solutions.

Key findings of the “Singaporeans Sweating it” Study:

·  70% of Singaporeans state they have been bothered by their own sweat in a professional setting

·  Nearly 8 in 10 people feel their social lives have been affected by sweat

·  Over half of Singaporeans make conscious fashion choices based on the possibility of sweat

·  More than 50% say they are bothered by their excessive sweat and try not to lift their arms over their heads

·  About one third would treat excessive sweat by using deodorants / antiperspirants or simply shower and wash themselves more frequently

In light of this, the MiraDry treatment is a welcome solution to the Singapore market. The treatment, which was soft-launched in Singapore in late 2013, is the only long lasting yet non-surgical procedure available.

The procedure itself takes approximately one hour, and is generally performed at a doctor’s office, under local anaesthesia, after a full prior consultation. Post-treatment, there is little to no downtime, and the effect can be seen almost immediately. For the best results, two sessions about three months apart are recommended. The outcome provides a significant departure from previously available alternatives, which require toxin injections or surgical incisions.

Dr Martin Huang, Plastic Surgeon at The Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, one of the two clinics that currently offer the MiraDry treatment in Singapore, states “I have often had patients coming to me asking for a long term solution for underarm sweating. Now they can choose a procedure that is quick, non-surgical and produces long lasting results. It’s a great option for those who are embarrassed or bothered by underarm sweat and who want a non-invasive solution with immediate results to their problem.”

“We developed MiraDry as people around the world were longing for help. We are confident that the MiraDry system is the best option that provides a safe and lasting solution for excessive sweat,” states James Lam, Vice President Asia Pacific, MiraDry. “We are proud to launch MiraDry into the Singapore market as this is the only FDA-approved treatment for hyperhidrosis.”

While MiraDry was specifically developed and clinically approved to solve the problem of excessive underarm sweat, it has also been observed that the treatment can reduce odour glands. Miradry is currently embarking on official studies to verify the long lasting reduction or elimination of odour.

The MiraDry treatment was developed by Miramar Labs in the US. In Asia, Singapore is the fourth  country it is made available after Japan, Korea  and Hong Kong – and the first in South East Asia.

MiraDry is exclusively available for distribution in Singapore via Servicom Medical (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a progressive medical distribution company that represents leading global brands in South East Asia.
