L’Apéritif Royal – for wine enthusiasts

London, August 2012 - This September sees the first of a series of tutored wine tastings and wine dinner at Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris. Head Sommelier Manuel Peyrondet, Meilleur Ouvrier de France* will welcome some of the most famous wine producers of France and Italy, to host these private tastings.

The hotel’s jewel-like Italian restaurant, overlooking the garden, Il Carpaccio, will open exclusively at 7pm for guests of these wine evenings, every third Monday of the month. The winemaker will introduce guests to four wines, putting each into the context of its winemaking, grape variety, region and terroir. Guests will be able to tap into both Manuel Peyrondet’s and the winemakers’ unparalleled wine knowledge and take advantage of their expert advice.

After the tasting, at 9pm, guests will be invited to La Cuisine, Le Royal Monceau’s chic gourmet restaurant, for a Food & Wine dinner. The tutoring will continue with a mouth-watering line-up of dishes by Chef Laurent Andre, specially designed to match four further wines from the guest producers’ cellars.

Notes to Editors

Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris reopened in October 2010 as a next-generation Palace after a dramatic and complete two year transformation by designer Philippe Starck. The hotel has 149 luxurious rooms and suites and is just minutes from the Arc-de-Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées in Paris' 8th arrondissement. Art is a key feature of Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris. Food and drink are an art form here too – from the buzz of the Long Bar on the ground floor, to the two restaurants, La Cuisine for gourmet French food and Il Carpaccio for the best Italian in Paris. Not to be missed are the creations by Pierre Hermé, the Picasso of patisserie. Named Best New Hotel at the Tatler Travel Awards 2011 www.raffles.com/paris

Raffles Hotels & Resorts was formed in 1989 to restore, redevelop and manage the world-famous Raffles Hotel. This lays the foundation for Raffles Hotels & Resorts to become a world-class international hotel management company.

With a compelling mix of cultures and styles, every hotel in the Raffles family has its own individual personality, with its own story to tell and its own sense of place. However, each one is proud to draw on the original Raffles tradition of delivering thoughtful, personal and discreet service to well-travelled guests.

This philosophy is embodied in the Raffles symbol –The Traveller’s Palm. Legend tells that this spectacular tree was a welcome sight to travellers of old; water stored in the base of its leaves quenched their thirst and the orientation of the leaves in an East-West direction provided an informal compass to guide them.

Today’s guests find a modern interpretation the Traveller’s Palm in the pin worn by every employee of Raffles Hotels & Resorts – a potent reminder to both guests and staff of the spirit of hospitality and sanctuary that is alive and well at every Raffles hotel.
