Le Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris Exhibits the Works of Photographer Jean-Francois Rauzier

“Hyperphotos” at Art District - Le Royal Monceau-Raffles Paris
in partnership with Galerie Paris-Beijing
22 June to 2nd september

With a dedicated Art Concierge – the first in Paris – a first-rate art collection, an art bookstore, La Librarie des Arts and its own gallery, Art District - Le Royal Monceau-Raffles Paris is firmly established as part of the cultural and artistic landscape of the capital. A favourite haunt of artists and intellectuals, the hotel is infused with artistic flair.
From 22 June, Art District will exhibit the work of French photographer Jean-Francois Rauzier, in an exhibition entitled “Hyperphotos”. In his monumental works, Jean-François Rauzier takes the viewer beyond the limits of the real world with his own invention, the hyperphoto. Each virtual image is a gigantic puzzle comprised of several hundreds of shots, taken with a telephoto lens and assembled by computer.

He explains: “Hyperphotos are like a long-forgotten dream come to life. The images are assembled numerically, to create an image so detailed and fascinating - yet at the same massive in scale and never-ending. Just like a dream.”

His works immerse the spectator into a dreamlike, sometimes fantastic universe. They offer a reflection on reality, the place of man in the city, the perception of the world and an invitation to a fascinating journey.

Jean-François Rauzier was born in 1952. Since graduating from the Ecole Louis Lumière he has worked as a professional photographer. In 2002 he developed the idea of the hyperphoto. Over the past few years, Rauzier has received the recognition of his peers, with a number of awards: in 2006, the Screenings prize in Berlin; in 2008, the Arcimboldo award for the digital creation; in 2009 he was rewarded by the APPPF in the photography of architecture category, and in 2010 he received the Eurazeo prize. He has been exhibited in New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris and Seoul.

This exhibition is in conjunction with Galerie Paris-Beijing, which is dedicated to contemporary world photography, with gallery spaces in Beijing and Paris.

Le Royal Monceau - Raffles Paris

Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris reopened in October 2010 as a next generation Palace after a dramatic and complete two year transformation by designer Philippe Starck. The hotel has 149 luxurious rooms and suites and is just minutes from the Arc-de-Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées in Paris’ 8th arrondissement. Art is a key feature of Raffles Paris - Le Royal Monceau. Food and drink are an art form here too – from the buzz of the Long Bar on the ground floor, to the two restaurants, La Cuisine for gourmet French food and Il Carpaccio for the best Italian in Paris. Not to be missed are the creations by Pierre Hermé, the Picasso of patisserie.

Raffles Hotels & Resorts was formed in 1989 to restore, redevelop and manage the world-famous Raffles Hotel. This lays the foundation for Raffles Hotels & Resorts to become a world-class international hotel management company.

With a compelling mix of cultures and styles, every hotel in the Raffles family has its own individual personality, with its own story to tell and its own sense of place. However, each one is proud to draw on the original Raffles tradition of delivering thoughtful, personal and discreet service to well-travelled guests.

This philosophy is embodied in the Raffles symbol –The Traveller’s Palm. Legend tells that this spectacular tree was a welcome sight to travellers of old; water stored in the base of its leaves quenched their thirst and the orientation of the leaves in an East-West direction provided an informal compass to guide them.

Today’s guests find a modern interpretation the Traveller’s Palm in the pin worn by every employee of Raffles Hotels & Resorts – a potent reminder to both guests and staff of the spirit of hospitality and sanctuary that is alive and well at every Raffles hotel.
