SILKAIR LAUNCHES NEW MOBILE APP

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, has launched a new mobile app which offers travellers greater travel convenience from booking to boarding. Designed to be fast and intuitive, the mobile app aims to provide users with a functional and seamless user experience.

Key features of the mobile app include flight booking, exclusive fares and itinerary management. Users can personalize the SilkAir mobile app home screen to show relevant flight updates and information, while push notifications can be enabled to receive prompt check-in reminders for upcoming trips. Travellers flying from Singapore Changi Airport can also enjoy the Mobile Boarding Pass feature which allows for more efficient flight check-in[1].

Additionally, the mobile app will allow KrisFlyer members to view their membership details such as miles and tier information in an easy-to-read design.

To celebrate the launch, SilkAir is offering special “app-clusive” deals starting from all-in fares of SGD 159 to Langkawi, SGD189 to Phuket and SGD 229 to Yogyakarta, amongst other destinations. These exclusive mobile app fares are available for a limited time only, until 17 October 2016[2]. In addition, bookings paid with MasterCard on the mobile app entitles the customer to free Resorts World SEA Aquarium Passes[3].

“SilkAir is constantly improving and enhancing our various digital touch points to keep up with the changing landscape of the travel industry. With the SilkAir mobile app, customers can expect greater control and convenience when it comes to planning their travel itineraries.” said SilkAir’s Vice President Commercial, Mr. Ryan Pua.

Built in conjunction with MTT, a Travelport Company and leading provider of digital travel solutions, the new SilkAir mobile app is now available for download at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The mobile app is compatible with iOS 8 and 9, and all Android versions released after 4.0.3 respectively. Users can look forward to more features that will progressively be added in future updates of the SilkAir mobile app.

About SilkAir

As the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir operates the Singapore Airlines Group's narrowbody fleet and extends the Group network by seeding and developing new, exciting destinations in Asia Pacific.

The airline took to the skies in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, before evolving into SilkAir in 1992. In its early days, the airline catered to passengers holidaying in exotic destinations in the region, including Phuket and Tioman. As the carrier developed, regional business destinations such as Phnom Penh, Yangon and Kuala Lumpur were added.

Today, the full service airline operates almost 400 weekly flights to 49 destinations in 13 countries. Recent additions to the network include Cairns (May 2015) and Male (Oct 2015). SilkAir’s network will increase to 52 destinations in 14 countries when Vientiane and Luang Prabang commence operations in October 2016, and Fuzhou in November 2016. The airline currently has a fleet of 31 aircraft, comprising 4 A319s and 11 A320s and 16 Boeing 737-800s. In August 2012, the airlineannounced the largest order in its history of up to 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, with firm orders comprising Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
