SMRT: “Encouraged by momentum of project and support by Indonesian President-Elect on the Jakarta Monorail Project”
SMRT International (SMRT) last year joined a consortium, PT Jakarta Monorail, that is involved in the strategic planning and construction of the Jakarta Eco Transport Monorail project (JET), one of the most significant transportation infrastructure projects undertaken by Indonesia in recent years. At a project progress meeting that took place at Jakarta City Hall today, President-Elect Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reiterated his support for the public transport project, noting that such a mass transportation system is much needed for Jakarta.
Desmond Kuek, SMRT President and Group CEO, who met with President-Elect Jokowi said, “SMRT is pleased that the project has been given new momentum with the support of Pak Jokowi, and we look forward to working with our consortium partners and local government officials to bring the project to fruition. SMRT has nearly 30 years of experience in service, operations and maintenance, and we are happy to share our expertise and contribute to Jakarta's monorail operations and development.”
SMRT’s involvement with the project, through a joint venture with Ortus Infrastructure Capital Ltd, will cover technical expertise as well as the operations and maintenance of the system. The consortium was formed in June 2013, with the official groundbreaking taking place in October 2013, officiated by Mr. Joko Widodo, DKI Jakarta Governor and the current President-Elect.Topics
