3 Important Tips On Storing Artwork

Paintings are an investment in itself with high prices for each original piece. Perhaps you are an artist or a collector, you can definitely appreciate the value of each painting. So, if you need storage space in Singapore, then keep these tips in mind while storing your artwork.

Keep it cool

Humidity and temperature are the two important factors while storing artwork. If there are warps and cracks in the storage unit due to temperature, it is not the place for storing your artwork. For keeping artwork, hire a climate controlled storage unit. These units maintain an ideal temperature of 21-24 degrees Celsius with 50% humidity. If you walk into a storage unit and find yourself feeling warm with beads of sweat, chances are, your artwork will also find it difficult to survive there.

Let it cure

Before putting your new artwork in a storage unit, let the curing process complete itself. If your paintings are not dried properly, they will stand a chance of getting easily affected by humidity. An oil painting can take up to 12 months for the curing process to complete. A latex-based painting on the other hand, is cured within a couple of days or weeks.

Wrap it up

While keeping your artwork in a storage unit, wrap it in a material which lets it breathe while safeguarding it from dust, bugs and scratches. Some of the materials that are considered best for wrapping artwork are towels, breathable blanket or sheet, and foam. Never wrap your artwork in a bubble or plastic wrap as it will block air circulation and trap condensation causing humidity.

Keep these tips in mind when you're storing your paintings to ensure they last for a long long time.
