HONG KONG’S YAW PRODUCTIONS PITCHES 3 MOVIES AT CANNES 2012

14 MAY 2012 - CANNES, FRANCE -- Yaw Productions Ltd, a Hong Kong based production company, is present at Cannes 2012 to pitch to international movie studios 3 English spoken movies, whose stories are centered in Hong Kong. They are seeking development and distribution deals for the release of the first picture, projected for September 2013.

Yaw Productions opened it’s doors in March 2010 after producing three short movies, Pest (2003), Love & Microwaves (2006) & El Corte (2010) and award winning T.V campaigns. It is a unique production company in Hong Kong, as it produces movies in English, based amidst a market that is respected, has vibrancy, and a strong movie making tradition.

Yaw Productions objective is to make character driven movies set in Hong Kong aimed for an international market. Yaw’s unique canvass is local and gritty with an international voice. Yvonne Cole, Founder, C.E.O & Executive Producer explains, “I am obsessed with Hong Kong. I leave but always find myself back there again. The city of lights ignites my imagination and these 3 pictures could not be made anywhere else”.

The stories are:
• AMAHGEDDON – This comedy set in the invisible world of domestic helpers. The unthinkable happens to Hong Kong. All the Amahs go on strike. The result is a black comedy of sacrifice, love, housewives who want revenge, political shenanigans and Hong Kong fortitude.
• SEVEN/ELEVEN – Take the movie, TRAINSPOTTING add a little BRIDGET JONES then stir in the best Hong Kong action movie you’ve ever seen, and you’d be close to what SEVEN/ELEVEN will deliver. Go on a hyper-reality, roller coaster ride with six Hong Kong residents in the city of lights. 
In Hong Kong – wonders will never cease.
• M.A.X – A tender tale of fear, acceptance and love. When a taxi driver gets a visit from his sister after many years abroad, she leaves something behind. A 7 year old boy called Max.

Karen Johnston, one of Asia Pacific’s most respected and sought after TV executive talents, is part of the Yaw Productions team, and is supporting the pitching efforts in Cannes. She or Cole are available for one-on-one interviews.

Yaw has raised half of the finance for the pictures from sources in Asia Pacific and the company is seeking additional funds to complete the movie.
