JAKARTA: State-owned postal company PT Pos Indonesia signed a cooperation agreement on Friday with PT QNET International Indonesia, a subsidiary of a Hong Kong-based direct selling company for the distribution of the latter’s products across the archipelago.

Under the five-year agreement, Pos will deliver QNET goods around Indonesia, including wristwatches, jewelry, as well as consumable and lifestyle products.

“With the kind of network Pos Indonesia offers, we hope that we can deliver our products to an even wider market,” said PT QN International Indonesia director Ina H. Rachman after the agreement signing.

With the decline of its mail business, the state-owned mail company is now expanding to other business activities, including packaged delivery service.

PT Pos director of mail and parcels service Ismanto said that this year the company aimed to increase its revenues from packaged delivery services by at least 40 percent this year to about Rp 1 trillion (US$102.07 million). To meet the target, the postal company has cooperated with a number of institutions and online companies in package delivery services.

“The cooperation with QNET is one of our biggest yet,” said Ismanto.

According to Ismanto, 80 percent of packaged deliveries are sent and received between people in Java, including clothes, handicrafts and artwork.

Previously, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan welcomed the positive changes brought about by Pos Indonesia. It recently signed a cooperation deal with Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) to open delivery services in a number of pesantren, or Islamic boarding schools.
