Press release -

Reminder: Train services between Ang Mo Kio and Admiralty MRT stations end by 12.30am from 15 April 2014

SMRT would like to remind the public that its train services will end 30 minutes earlier at six North-South Line MRT stations, for five nights from Sunday to Thursday nights* from 15 April 2014 to end October 2014 (except for eve of public holidays). The six stations are Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang, Khatib, Yishun, Sembawang and Admiralty.

SMRT seeks the support, patience and understanding of commuters. The early closure will help enhance system reliability and offer smoother rides. Thirty minute-closures on weekday nights will enable SMRT to deploy machinery more efficiently to accelerate sleeper replacement works. It will also contribute to quicker implementation of other key projects such as re-signalling and future third rail replacement.

SMRT has issued a service announcement via its corporate website and social channels on 26 March 2014, and is progressively distributing notification letters to residents staying around the affected stations. Posters, brochures and flyers are also being displayed and distributed to raise awareness. Since 8 April 2014, SMRT has begun broadcasting PA announcements in stations and trains to remind passengers of the early closure. To maximise the reach, SMRT will also be running a second round of print ads on the 15 April 2014.

During the period from 15 April 2014 to end October 2014, passengers are advised to consider other travel routes and modes of transport. Passengers are encouraged to refer to service information at the affected stations to find out nearby available buses or visit the ‘PublicTransport@SG’ website (www.publictransport.sg) developed by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for resources to plan their journey.

The sleeper replacement schedule is updated regularly on SMRT’s corporate website at:  http://www.smrt.com.sg/SMRTMe/ServiceEnhancements/CurrentUpcomingProjects.aspx

*Note: Sunday night extends to pre-dawn Monday while Thursday night extends to pre-dawn Friday
