Sony VPL-HW20 delivers the latest in HD home projector technology

Basingstoke, 01 September 2010 - Sony Professional has today announced it has further enhanced its range of home cinema projectors with the launch of the VPL-HW20. The new home cinema projector is aimed at a variety of users, from home cinema enthusiasts to armchair sports fans and gaming fanatics.

“With more and more people demanding cinema quality projection in the home, it is critical that we stay ahead of the trend and continue to develop our home cinema suite of projectors” said Tak Nakane, Marketing Manager at Sony Professional, Europe. “The launch of the VPL-HW20 will ensure that we continue to deliver the best in HD home cinema projection in a range of formats that make it accessible to the wider public.”

With Sony’s Advanced Iris 3™ technology the VPL-HW20 projector delivers a picture quality that works like the human eye, responding dynamically to the level of light in each scene, and always selecting the optimum contrast. With a ratio of 80,000:1, Advanced Iris 3™ can bring out the detail in darker sequences and prevent bright scenes from looking washed out, delivering an improved brightness of 1300lm.

The improved contrast is the result of Sony’s updated 1920 x 1080 SXRD panels – built to deliver a consistently superior image, produced across the entire screen. The combination of three separate panels of 1920 x 1080 resolution means that the VPL-HW20 projector can deliver over 6.2 million pixels, more than twice as many than available with other 720p HD-ready projectors. The SXRD provides film-quality smoothness by minimising the space between pixels for smooth pictures with unrivalled clarity.

The new VPL-HW20 is also equipped with the All Range Crisp Focus (ARC-F) lens which offers a 1.6x manual zoom and both vertical and horizontal adjustment, simplifying projector set up and helping users achieve a good picture in a variety of environments. In order to generate a picture that is optimised both in the accuracy of the contrast and the precision of the colour reproduction, the VPL-HW20’s digital processing systemconsists of eight separate stages of image enhancement – carried out in real time – each with a specialised function. The digital processing system also incorporates full digital signal processing technology, to reproduce optimal, high resolution images from standard definition and HD signals. This further enhances the image quality, optimisation of contrast and noise reduction.

“The VPL-HW20 demonstrates Sony’s continuing commitment to home cinema innovation. By developing and improving our SXRD technology, we are able to deliver high quality HD products to more and more viewers” said Nakane.
