Success for this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair

Press release -

Success for this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair

The superlatives have been plentiful about this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which ended this past weekend. Many have said that it was the best one yet. In total, almost 40,000 visitors made their way to Stockholmsmässan, and the interest of the Fair is growing in all areas.

When Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, the world’s largest meeting place for Scandinavian design, opened its doors last week, visitors were greeted by a number of changes. Many companies had been given new stand locations and new areas had been created.

– As the organizers, it’s our mission to be responsive and reflect industry developments. We’re continually working to adapt and improve the meeting place for exhibitors and visitors alike. The response exceeded all expectations. It strengthens us as the leading fair in Scandinavian design, says Cecilia Nyberg, Event Manager for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

This year’s Fair grew in all areas. For example, international interest is continuing to grow. This year there were 6,635 foreign visitors, which corresponds to around 27% of the industry visitors and an increase of more than 15% compared to last year. The visitors came from more than 60 countries, with the most representation from Norway (1,720), Finland (1,177) and Denmark (970).

Interest is also growing among design-aficionados in the general public; this year they numbered 6,136 compared to 5,036 last year. Activity has been lively on social media. Together with Stockholm Design Week, the Fair went from 12,300 followers last year to 17,400 this year. The largest change was on Instagram, which increased around 80% in two weeks and by more than 8,200 pictures. During the Fair’s opening hours there was 1 tweet every other minute.

Some quotes about the Fair:

“This is the furniture nerd’s Woodstock and one of the year’s most important events for us. The home field is always the home field. I am completely convinced that we could reach 60,000 visitors in a reasonable amount of time. The new hall lay-out makes it a possibility. It is now possible to squeeze in more exhibitors, which in turn attracts more visitors. More attracts more, and we probably had 10% more customers in our stand compared to last year.”

Johan Lindau, Blå Station

“We have to admit that we were a little nervous about the new lay-out of the halls, but the result has blown away our expectations. It feels like both Hall A and Hall B are of high quality and it is clearly noticeable that the entire industry is doing well.”

Thomas Asplund, Asplunds

The next Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will be held February 9 - 13, 2016, at Stockholmsmässan.
