van Deurs wins Formex Formidable 2018 design award

The jury-assessed award, Formex Formidable 2018, goes to van Deurs for its pleated shawl. The designer is Susanne Beskow. The honorary ‘People’s Choice’ award, which is determined by the public, goes to Skeppshults gjuteri for its ”Spice” mill designed by Carl & Carl.

Jury’s motivation: When Susanne Beskow recovers textiles - old shawls - a new, refined and luxurious whole will emerge. Handicraft and exquisite fashion in a unique collection by a designer with a passion for pleats.

People’s Choice
Object: ”Spice” mill
Company: Skeppshults gjuteri
Designer: Carl & Carl

Description: Peppercorn and herbs – never before have we seen the spice mill grind with such a construction in a distinct and determined shape. Heavy cast iron with a smooth expression.

The members of the 2018 jury are: Synnöve Mork, designer; Dan Gordan, design journalist; Kerstin Wickman, Professor of the History of Design; Emma Olbers, designer and Kajsa Falck-Torlegård, Formex. Twelve objects are nominated for the competition. In order to be nominated, the product must have been exhibited at Formex in the spring or fall of 2018. It must be new for the year and is judged for its design and relevance.
