Messe Frankfurt: Laying of the foundation stone for the new Hall 12

  • Consortium consisting of ZÜBLIN, Max Bögl and ENGIE responsible for building construction
  • To be inaugurated in time for Automechanika 2018

Peter Feldmann, Mayor of Frankfurt am Main and Chairman of the Messe Frankfurt Supervisory Board, joined the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt to lay the foundation stone for the new Hall 12 in the West portion of the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. Numerous invited guests from the realms of politics and business were also in attendance. In his speech commemorating the laying of the foundation stone, Mayor Feldmann welcomed the solid commitment that Messe Frankfurt and its shareholders have shown to their Frankfurt base: “Messe Frankfurt is a global player whose heart remains in Frankfurt. Its high-quality exhibition grounds and outstanding portfolio of events are a clear reflection of its strategy of making full use of its home base and ensuring that it has all the facilities necessary for Messe Frankfurt’s prestigious events. It benefits the company, it benefits our city and region, and it benefits the State of Hesse.”

Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, was delighted at the important signal being sent to customers by the laying of the foundation stone for the new hall: “Messe Frankfurt is an internationally successful company whose events are held in the highest esteem throughout the world. Exhibitors and visitors love coming to Frankfurt. With our new Hall 12, we are investing in the continued development of our base, expanding our modern platform for matching supply and demand – and making Messe Frankfurt an even more welcoming venue for our national and international guests.”

In a panel discussion entitled “Success factors for major construction projects – what makes all the difference?” that followed the ceremony, Johann Bögl (shareholder of the Max Bögl Group), Kilian Kada (Managing Director of kadawittfeldarchitektur GmbH), Klaus Pöllath (Member of the Board of Ed. Züblin AG), Manfred Schmitz (CEO of Engie Deutschland), and Uwe Behm, the member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt with responsibility for this major construction project, discussed the significance and parameters of a consortium for major construction projects. The two-storey hall designed by kadawittfeldarchitektur GmbH will be inaugurated in time for Automechanika 2018. The building will be approximately 248 metres long, 118 metres wide and approximately 30 metres high. Exhibition space will be around 33,600 gross square metres in total.

In his speech, Uwe Behm, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, discussed the benefits of the new project: “The new Hall 12 is the cornerstone of our development activities in the open area of the West portion of our exhibition grounds. It will fit harmoniously with the neighbouring buildings while conveying a discernible independence. We are building a state-of-the-art, highly flexible hall with a transparent design that allows for ideal visitor management and logistics.”

An integral component of the new structure’s façade will be provided by the Via Mobile, a covered and glazed transport system with moving walkways and escalators connecting the various halls.
