Bognor care manager sentenced for thefts from elderly residents

News   •   Apr 23, 2019 17:19 BST

The manager of a Bognor care home has been sentenced to a year's imprisonment for defrauding elderly residents out of £4,000.

Bryony Treloar, 39, of Dorset Road, Bognor, was entrusted with caring for 70 vulnerable people at Summerley Care Home in Southview Road.

However she used that position to systematically stealing 'pocket money' provided to 17 of the residents by their families to pay for personal items and services such as haircuts, hygiene products, newspapers and clothing.

Treloar, 39, of Dorset Road in Bognor, pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (17 April) and was jailed for a year for the offences, six months for each offence to run consecutively. She was also ordered to pay £1,960.94 in compensation to Summerley Care Home.

PC Robynn Gordon who investigated the allegations, said:""We and the relatives are pleased with the positive outcome of this trial, which highlights that abuse of such a position, with vulnerable victims who trusted their manager as a carer and a friend, will be given an appropriate sentence reflecting the serious nature of such heartless offending."
