Detectives investigating the rape of a woman on the seafront in East Worthing on Sunday evening 8 September, have made an arrest.
The 26-year-old victim was walking along New Parade off the A259 Brighton Road, East Worthing, near the Splash Point building site, shortly before 10.30pm that Sunday when she was approached by a man who initially asked directions but then took her to the beach and raped her. The man then left the area on foot.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Worthing on Wednesday morning (18 September) on suspicion of the rape. After being interviewed he was released on police bail with conditions, until 13 October while enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Eva Barwis of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Team said; "We are grateful to local people for their response to our appeals for information.
