Tabernus Deliver New White Paper on Advances in SSD Erasure Solutions

Press Releases   •   Jan 10, 2014 14:50 GMT

Austin ,TX - January, 2014- At the beginning of a new year data erasure experts Tabernus publish a new white paper exploring the advances in Tabernus SSD erasure solutions.

This delivery comes after Tabernus announced successful testing of it’s solid-state drive (SSD) data erasure software, which was offered by ADISA (Asset Disposal Information Security Alliance) and performed by the Information Security Research Group University of South Wales back in 2013.

Based on ADISA’s testing methodology, the solid-state drives Tabernus put through testing were successfully erased for consumer level and enterprise level applications.

The popularity of solid state drives is said to continue to increase and make up 40% of the hard drive market by 2016 from research like this Tabernus is investing in more resources to keep pace with SSD as an emerging technology.

Joe Mount, Tabernus VP of North America Operations comments, “We feel there is increased opportunity in the area of solid state storage, which is why Tabernus plans to be highly vigilant with our testing and participation with industry groups and customers.”

Traffic Excessively Decreases at Target stores following a data breach

Press Releases   •   Jan 07, 2014 14:27 GMT

Austin, TX- January, 2014- Over the past month retail chain Target have stated about 40 million credit and debit cards have been compromised by a data breach during the height of the festive shopping season.

The data breach, which is said to be one of the worst in history, started around thanksgiving on the busy black Friday weekend. The stolen data includes customer names, credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and the three-digit security codes located on the back of the cards. The stolen information has reportedly flooded underground black markets, going on sale in batches of one million cards.

At least 2 million shoppers who used bank debit cards at Target stores during its recent data breach are facing lower limits on how much cash they can spend at stores.

In the wake of this massive data breach the number of transactions at target fell 3 to 4 percent compared with last years final weekend before Christmas.

Craig Johnson, President of Customer Growth Partners said, “ This is the worst possible time something like this could happen”.

It is now believed that all Target customers affected by the data breach are to receive new cards from their banks.

Natalie Brown, a Wells Fargo spokeswoman said that if the bank believes security is at risk, “We’ll take action to safeguard customers’ accounts, which may include replacing the card entirely.”

Target being the prime example show how crucial it is for businesses to ensure customers data is protected, not only as a financial safe guard but in order to protect the brand also. A successful method in which can prevent disclosure of personal information is Tabernus certified data erasure.

Tabernus provide certified data erasure software and hardware products used by organizations and companies of all sizes, to completely remove data from hard drive storage devices providing companies with confidence and assurance that their data is secure.

Joe Mount Tabernus VP of North America Operations comments,

For Through-life erasure of server drives which is secure and safe, Tabernus provide LUN data erasure software which securely erased the hard drive space and allows the free space to be reused saving significant data storage space.”

South African Banks Suffer Data Breach Resulting in Losses of Ten Million Rand

Press Releases   •   Nov 14, 2013 22:14 GMT

Johannesburg, ZA-  November 2013- South African banks have suffered losses of millions of rand due to a major breach of customer card data. This data breach occurred from point-of-sale (POS) terminals becoming infected with malicious software called Dexter enabling cyber criminals to steal credit and debit card information of customers.

The crisis is believed to have only hit the fast- food industry in particular striking the chicken fast food chain KFC the hardest. As a result of the breach Europol, Interpol and the South African Police Service are all involved to what is now referred to as a multinational investigation. Sabric which is South Africa’s banking risk intelligence centre, is managing the forensic investigation whilst working closely with investigators.

Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) CEO Walter Volker explained that when a bank customer presented their card at a fast-food outlet and it was swiped, malware hidden in an infected POS terminal would read the customer’s card number and send this to an international syndicate.

Data breaches can be violating and damaging to all those involved which consequently result in severe actions. In today’s society where breaches are continuely increasing it’s important that companies have precautions in place to prevent such catastrophe. A method in which can prevent disclosure of personal information is Tabernus Data Erasure.

Tabernus provide certified data erasure software and hardware products used by organisations and companies of all sizes, to completely remove data from hard drive storage devices providing companies with confidence and assurance that their data is secure. By using Tabernus Certified data erasure software, erasing POS equipment hard drives at the end of life cycle would prevent a possible future data breach.

EU Proposes £85m Fines for Companies Abusing Data Protection Laws

Press Releases   •   Nov 14, 2013 22:11 GMT

Cardiff, UK, November, 2013- Companies could face fines of £85 million or five percent of their annual global turnover, whichever is greater.  This increase is following a European Parliament poll to toughen the proposals for new EU data protection laws.

Under the new proposals any individual would gain the right to have their personal data erased if they wished to request it.  If any person requested a company to erase their personal data the company in question would be legally obliged to forward the request to other companies or organisations where the data had been replicated.

“The European Parliament has just given its full backing to a strong and uniform European data protection law that will cut costs for business and strengthen the protection of our citizens: one continent, one law,” comments EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding.

For companies such as Google, that has always been associated with data protection controversy, breaking this new law could result in a fine as large as 25% of its profits. The safest option for companies to prevent large fines from occurring and to ensure an individual’s personal information is securely removed is data erasure solutions. Tabernus data erasure solutions provide a safe and efficient way of preventing confidential information from re-surfacing.

Tabernus provide LUN data erasure software which securely erased the hard drive space and allows the free space to be reused saving significant data storage space.
