EIT Digital Idea Challenge voor startups sluit af met 461 ingediende voorstellen uit 26 landen.

Jul 07, 2015 16:17 GMT EIT Digital Open innovatie organisatie EIT Digital laat weten dat de Idea Challenge wedstrijd voor startups succesvol is verlopen met 461 ingediende voorstellen uit 26 EU landen. Nederlandse startups dienden totaal 39 voorstellen in.

Willem Jonker, CEO of EIT Digital says: "We are European entrepreneurs driving digital innovation and education. EIT Digital is more in line with our identity, strategy and mission. The name is also easier to pronounce and enables us to build a stronger brand.”

Volgens CEO Willem Jonker is de nieuwe naamgeving meer in lijn met de identiteit, strategie en missie. Ook is EIT Digital gemakkelijker uit te spreken en helpt het bij het vergroten van de naamsbekendheid. Samen met de implementatie van de nieuwe naam, verwelkomt EIT Digital Nederland een nieuwe directeur: Patrick Essers.

Designing microwave devices from scratch using computer simulations

Light-emitting fork made with sprayed LEC technology

May 20, 2015 08:00 GMT Umeå University Light-emitting electrochemical cells, LEC, is a newly invented lighting technology. In his thesis, physicist Amir Asadpoordarvish, Umeå University, shows how a LEC can be produced through spraying three layers of ink on a substrate and emit light by the current from an ordinary battery. LEC components can be sprayed onto complicated surfaces, for example to make a light-emitting fork.

Emmanuelle Charpentier named in Time magazine’s ‘100 most influential people in world' list

She was recognised for her discovery of the CRISPR-Cas9 mechanism in bacteria, which became a gene editing tool now used in research labs world wide.
