Your chances of gaining weight this Christmas are high, but ending up roly-poly is not inevitable

Manchester, November 22, 2017 – Packing on the pounds over Christmas isn’t unusual in the UK, with Brits adding around a kilogram on average, according to various scientific studies. Perhaps even more worrying is that around half of us will live with that weight gain until the coming summer or even longer.

“The best way to deal with the all tasty temptations over the holiday season is to work harder at eating the tempting foods and sweets in moderation and taking an extra 30-minute walk or light jog every day,” said Jan Alderlieste, Chief Operations Officer, Tanita Europe BV.

Jan stressed weight gain is not inevitable over the holiday season.

“Using a body composition monitor like the smart Tanita RD-545 will allow you to quickly identify any weight gain and work at getting over it before it becomes a lasting problem,” he added.

And, while the evidence is that most Europeans go up in weight over Xmas, the British seem to lead the field. For example, a team of researchers at Tampere University in Finland found Germans increase an average of 0.8 kilograms over the Christmas-New Year holiday. In the UK, the British Dietetic Association says that in the process of demolishing the Christmas turkey and pudding, the average Brit can put on up to 2.7kg over the Christmas period.

Staying in control f your weight is made easy by the state-of-the-art Tanita RD-545, available for £405 from tanita.eu, which measures your fitness progress and overall health.
