The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand have officially joined forces with the Ministry of Transport and the Marine Department to support the new show for ultimate lifestyle and leisure.
Phuket's newest and most-exciting gathering of yachts, boats and luxury brands will be brimming with glamour and parties - there will be so much to see and do at the Thailand Yacht Show 2016, aside being a superyacht charter show, promises the organizer.
“Over 7 days from the 7th to the 14th February, we will hold industry seminars, various recreational sailing and boating activities, and a luxury lifestyle exhibition as well as the yacht show itself, all adding to the festivities and expanding the appeal,” organizer Andy Treadwell announced at the launch event
“The interest from both the local industry and the global yachting community since we announced the new Thailand Yacht Show has been absolutely phenomenal.I think we can safely say that it will be a huge success - we already have enquiries from most of the main players in the industry.”
The event offers of on-water displays, wine, cocktail and champagne tastings, not to mention vibrant parties both on yachts and on-land.
The cross section of new exhibitors demonstrates the global appeal of the Show with the line-up including international brands, local Thai icons and a broad range of luxury boats for sale, charter yachts and lifestyle companies.
One of the most beautiful yachts to enter the line-up is M/Y Nanou, the classically styled 32-metre Benetti presented by leading industry brokerage house Burgess Yachts. Nanou will form part of the 40 strong line-up of yachts, which includes the 51-metre charter yacht, the Phinisi, S/Y Dunia Baru showcased by 37 South, the MCY 70 joins the Show thanks to Simpson Marine.
Lee Marine, Boat Lagoon Yachting, Leopard Catamarans, Azimut Yachts Thailand and SPLO Yachts also join the list of on-water exhibitors.
At the launch event for the new Thailand Yacht Show, organizer Andy Treadwell referred to what his own yacht show in Singapore has been achieved in just for years: now being referred to as one of the three most important Yacht Shows in the world
“Thanks to the initiative of the Prime Minister himself, and the tremendous proactivity of the Minister of Transport and the Director General of the Marine Department in particular, we have recently been able to announce the new charter license for foreign-flagged superyachts. As a result, we are able to launch a truly international yacht show for Thailand,” said Andy Treadwell.
“If Singapore is the main business hub for Asia, where wealthy entrepreneurs from all over the region come to buy their boats, then Thailand is the true destination capital.”
He specifically highlighted Phuket and its glorious cruising grounds as yachting’s magnetic epicentre: “This is the place where everybody comes to use their boats and enjoy life.”
“Most of our clients who own superyachts in the Mediterranean and in the Americas – and there are around 5,000 of them - have heard of Phuket and the magnificent sailing waters in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. They undoubtedly all want to come here and see for themselves, but there has been one thing stopping them arriving in big numbers so far – the inability to charter. “
“The new superyacht charter license is now a reality, and with this vital missing piece of the jigsaw finally in place, we believe we can get large numbers of yachts sailing to Thailand.”
“This is the kind of visitor that Thailand wants – yachting tourists spend far more than any other tourism sector. On average, a visiting superyacht from the other side of the world will spend at least $1 million – probably nearer to $2 million - in the country in which it is based for the season. This means a serious impact into the local economy, with a highly positive effect on job creation local infrastructure and inward investment.“
Andy and his company will also do much more than just organizing the show: to persuade the large yachts to venture here instead of going to the Caribbean – that is what they do, that is the business that they know best, and that is why they are really looking forward to the next few years - growing this new event and helping to develop the industry here. They will be undertaking a professional destination marketing campaign to bring yacht owners, as well as prospective charterers and buyers, to Thailand.
In 2015 the government of Thailand announced a marine tourism strategy, which encompasses marketing, infrastructure development and regulatory reform for the boating and yachting industries.
