"Let's not beat about the bush here, this song is our inevitable response to the strange new world of Brexit and President Trump", says Willie Dowling. “Over the years, I’ve developed something of a Cassandra complex about how I've viewed world events, often feeling like I’m ranting like a madman in the dark. It’s a perverse kind of comfort, married to a terrible horror, to accept that these concerns have been pretty much realised and are on the rise. The Dowling Poole are determined not to shrink away under the current shadows. Now is the time for all of us to get louder in our opposition to these new monsters, and to hell with the idea that art and politics are somehow permanently separate entities”.
The 'Deep Breath' EP features two bonus tracks, which are live acoustic performances recorded in Manchester 2015. Both bonus tracks ('A Kiss On the Ocean' and 'Paper, Scissors, Stone) were originally recorded in their ‘full band’ versions, for the group's critically acclaimed debut album 'Bleak Strategies' which was released in 2014.
The Dowling Poole released two other EP's recently: 'Miles Checks Out', which similarly features two live acoustic bonus tracks, 'Saving It All For A Saturday' and 'Getting A Licence', and the EP 'Bright Spark', which has live acoustic performances of 'The Sun Is Mine' and 'Where The Memories Fester'.
All live acoustic tracks from the three EP's are available as ‘full electric’ original versions on the 'Bleak Strategies' album.
The Dowling Poole recently started a webshop, where you’ll find physical CD’s and vinyl versions of the albums ‘Bleak Strategies’ and ‘One Hyde Park’, amongst various other items, including t-shirts and posters.
The Dowling Poole played a number of full electric gigs in the UK last year.
"We'll be touring the UK in the spring 2017", says Jon Poole. Dates and venues to be confirmed soon. “We’ve put together a great live band featuring Andy Lewis on bass, Elliot Vaughan on drums and Givvi Flynn on vocals and acoustic guitar. Willie and I love the fact that we’ve got a band that can play the songs the way we want them to be heard”.
About The Dowling Poole
The Dowling Poole is formed by singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Willie Dowling and Jon Poole. Their first album 'Bleak Strategies' was a Top 20 Indie album and with Mojo describing it as “A classic British rock album heavy on powerpop smarts 4/5”. Classic Rock magazine hailed the album as “one of the most gorgeously idiosyncratic records to emerge in years 9/10”.
Influenced by pop masters such as XTC, ELO, Blur, 10cc, The Kinks, The Beatles and more, The Dowling Poole – described by The Sun as “an awesome pairing 4.5/5”, have once more created an eclectic and contemporary sounding mix of semi-psychedelic pop, somehow quintessentially British-sounding, laced with harmonies and a multitude of influences from the best of 50 years of rock and popular music.
