Liverpool City Council has announced Amey as the successful bidder for two contracts to deliver highways and street cleaning services across the city. Together the contracts are worth a total of £113million over 9 years and will deliver around £33million of savings for the council.
The contracts will give Amey responsibility for improving and maintaining Liverpool’s highways infrastructure – including nearly 2,000 km of roads, 44,000 street lights, 516 structures as well as street cleansing, winter maintenance and highway improvement schemes across the city.

Councillor Tim Moore, cabinet member for climate change and transport, said: "Keeping our streets clean and well maintained is a major priority, but cuts in funding from central Government mean it is more important than ever that we squeeze as much value as possible from our contracts.
"The millions of pounds we are saving each year will enable us to protect other vital services and shield the most vulnerable as much as we possibly can.
"We are convinced Amey will deliver top quality services, and have been particularly impressed with their commitment to developing employment opportunities for local people."
The contracts will also contribute to the social and economic regeneration of Liverpool through the creation of jobs, skills and training opportunities. This includes a pledge to take on 140 apprentices over the life of the contract and a commitment to spend 90% of its budget locally, with particular support for small and medium enterprises.
Councillor Steve Munby, cabinet member for living environment and localism, added: "The new contracts will enable us to meet the Mayoral pledge to make Liverpool, a greener and cleaner city.
"We are committed to continually improve these services. The new contracts allow for innovation but also add social value to the services provided, by making sure as much of the money as possible is invested locally."
