The Aspire Assistive Technology programme exists to ensure that everyone, regardless of the level of their injury, has independent access to a computer. Based in the Spinal Injury Centres, Aspire provides computers and the necessary technology, along with a dedicated team of volunteers, to ensure patients get the most out of what is available.

Monday 9th September saw the launch of the 14th Aspire Channel Swim, our biggest fundraising event. Over 3,000 swimmers across the UK are aiming to swim the length of the English Channel (22 miles) in 12 weeks in their local pool to raise money for Aspire.

Twenty-four brave swimmers have successfully swam across the Solent, raising £33,000 for Aspire. As the very first Aspire Solent Swim, the event has been a huge success, attracting swimmers from all over the UK who trained for months in preparation for their iconic achievement.

Aspire is hugely disappointed that the high court has ruled this morning that the Bedroom Tax/Spare Room Subsidy does not unlawfully discriminate against disabled people. This is particularly concerning given recent research which found that disabled people affected by the bedroom tax are cutting back on both every day essentials and medical expenses in order to meet payments.

On Wednesday 5th June, we launched the second Aspire book, It’s My life 2, a collection of stories from people with Spinal Cord Injury. It’s My Life 2 is available free to people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), with the aim of showing how other spinal injured people have achieved independence and overcome challenges associated with SCI to fulfill their personal goals
