Press Release   •   Dec 11, 2015 11:49 GMT

The number of passengers travelling to and from Avinor's 46 airports grew by 1.9 per cent compared with November 2014. Around 4 million passengers flew via the airports in November.

Growth in Oslo and Trondheim
Oslo Airport saw growth of 4.2 per cent in November, compared with last year.
Domestic traffic grew by 3.4 per cent, while international traffic was up 5 per cent.

"International traffic has increased steadily throughout the year, and we are now also seeing growth in domestic traffic. There are a number of reasons for this. For example, there has been good growth in the routes to Northern Norway, which is a result of more and more foreign tourists passing through Oslo Airport on their way north," says Avinor's head of communications, Gurli Høeg Ulverud.

A total of 1 932 206 passengers travelled via Oslo Airport in November.

Trondheim Airport, Værnes experienced growth totalling 2.9 per cent, compared with the same month last year. Domestic traffic was the main source of the higher numbers (3.8 per cent).

"Development in our domestic routes is good, particularly the route between Trondheim and Oslo," explains Værnes Airport Managing Director, Lasse Bardal.

Bergen Airport, Flesland has seen a decline of 2.8 per cent overall, but with solid growth in international traffic (6 per cent). Stavanger Airport, Sola experienced a decline totalling 7.3 per cent, compared with November 2014.

Local variations – growth in the north
There are local variations in the other airports that are part of the Avinor network. Florø is feeling the downturn in the offshore sector, where traffic has dropped by a total of 18.3 per cent compared with last year.

In general, the airports in the north have seen robust growth. Alta Airport has recorded growth of as much as 15 per cent. Hammerfest also has very solid growth, a whopping 34.9 per cent. The two largest airports in the region, Bodø and Tromsø have posted overall traffic increases of 7 per cent and 10.4 per cent, respectively, compared with the same period in 2014.
