Best New Toys for 2017 Revealed at Toy Fair

New S.T.E.M category added to reflect growing trend

Tuesday 24 January: Lego, SpinMaster and Playmobil were among the winners of Toy Fair’s Best New Toys announced this morning at London’s Olympia. Selected by an independent panel of retailers, these are the toys they believe will be the hottest products over the coming year.

Forty-one exhibiting companies, spread over 15 different categories, have been commended for their innovation and the list represents the diversity and continued success the UK toy market has enjoyed in recent times.

For 2017, the judging panel decided to re-order the categories and have add four brand new ones for this year. S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) has been added to reflect what is set to be a trend for 2017, while a Collectables category has been added to recognise the importance of the sector to the UK toy industry. ‘Wooden Toys’ and ‘Wheeled’ have also been added as categories.

From major brands to start-up companies, the list represents a cross section of success stories that have kept the UK toy industry growing over the last few years. As the market evolves, it is fantastic to see the judging panel introduce new categories such as the S.T.E.M category which recognises how important toys and the value of play are to a child’s development. The Toy Fair Best New Toys Award winners can be found outside the Press Office at Toy Fair, which is the UK’s only trade event dedicated to toys, games and hobbies.
