Bedales Celebrates 10th anniversary of Legendary Rock Show

Bedales’ now legendary Rock Show took centre stage in the School’s Olivier Theatre last month for the 10th anniversary of the event.

Over the past decade, the show has helped to launch the musical careers of notable alumni including Gabriel Bruce, Marika Hackman, Leah Mason and Freddy Sheed and has attracted the attentions of talent scouts keen to see budding musicians in action.

Students from across the year groups performed music including: Beyonce's "Crazy in Love", Outkast's "B.O.B", Jimi Hendrix's "Wait Until Tomorrow", Snarky Puppy's "Gone Under", Kasabian's "Shoot The Runner" and John Mayer's "Gravity" in addition to a whole host of original songs composed by Bedales' students.

There was plenty of opportunity for students to experience the skills required to crew such an event, thanks to the support of Simon Higgs who works for ‘The Who’ along with Mark "Magic" Ellis-Cope. The Who’s influence on the Bedales Rock Show originated with former parent Pete Townshend, when he inspired the school to stage such an event in the theatre in 2004 with the help of the band’s legendary sound engineer, Bob Pridden.

Commenting on the show, Bedales guitar teacher and Rock Show organiser, Neil Hornsby, said: “Stunning performances from the spectacular Rosheen Bond and Delilah Montagu were complemented by the wonderful original songs of Josie Blakelock, Jack Merrett and Harley Mitford. A whole host of amazing debut performances from the likes of Stella Green and Sophia Berger were ably supported by the impressive musicianship of Peter Wilson, Louis Giannamore, Luca Caruso and departing Rock Show icons Jasper Ford Welman and Will Reynolds. This was the perfect event to celebrate the 10th anniversary and we look forward to another decade of fantastic music talent at Bedales”.
