Press release   •   Dec 20, 2012 15:14 GMT

Birmingham City Football Club's first-team squad played the role of Santa this week by handing out thousands of pounds worth of presents to patients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The annual Blues Give a Gift campaign aims to bring some Christmas cheer to those unfortunate enough to be spending the festive period in hospital.

As well as toys for all the children on several of the wards, the club handed out presents to all the playrooms. These gifts included Xboxes, games, DVDs, play kitchens, board games and craft supplies.

The club, first-team players and several local businesses all chipped in to purchase the mountain of gifts which were distributed.

Fidelis Navas, from the fundraising team at the hospital, said: "The players were so warm and personable and the patients, staff and families all really enjoyed their visit. We are so grateful to Birmingham City, John Lewis Solihull and Quilter, who all generously donated the gifts."
