What's Ticking Today

An Oxonian's Tale...

They got in touch and told me about all these great offers that could save me big discounts, but the net was spread wide and the only things I could find on the night I wanted it (the next as it happened), were either in Swindon or Northampton. As much as I enjoy saving a few pennies, I’m not going to blow it all on the petrol it takes for me to travel 40 or 50 miles. And not only that, on the odd occasion they had something within a driveable distance, I booked it, went along and, well, that was it.

OK, so I never expected the red carpet treatment and a fanfare on our arrival, but still – the whole ‘user experience’ as they like to call it these days – could have been better.

So you can imagine how underwhelmed I was when a mate told me of another deals and offers site that had been launched. He must have caught me rolling my eyes but he didn’t fold and said I should give it a go as he’d been – quote – impressed.

As it happened, I’d spoken with the boss (her indoors, not my work version) and she’d said she fancied a night out on Friday. In all honesty, I couldn’t think of anything particularly original other than a few pints down at The Winchester.

As I left for work, I said I’d ‘look into it’ and sort something out. I caught the train from Thame into the city as I always did and checked out the screwed up notepaper in my pocket that my mate had given me. It read ‘What’s Ticking Today’ so I searched the site on my phone and was pleasantly surprised to find it only had offers for the day just started.

Better than that, they were all pretty close by. There was one that jumped out at me – a Bill Hicks impersonator was doing a show in town and there was a 2 for 1 offer on. If I booked the gig, I could also link it with a 2 for 1 meal at a nearby café who had an hour of stand-up for that night only.

Sold! It was almost too convenient…

I reckon I saved £70 that night and the customer care the WTT team gave me was better than anything I’d come across before in this field. Even better, I left my car at home, my other half was impressed and we actually had a fantastic night.

Will I be using What’s Ticking Today again? What do you think…?
