Ramblers Walking Holidays

Christmas at Hassness Country House

The recent adverse weather in the Lake District didn’t deter veteran rambler Gerry Carson or the redoubtable tour leaders Gillian and Chris; despite the elements, an excellent Christmas holiday was enjoyed by all at Hassness House.

Everyone will know from the news about how badly Lakeland has been affected by the recent storms and floods, and that was quite evident on the journey in, and as well as during the stay and then the return journey from Hassness. But having said that, this trip was as good as ever.

Even though we had rain and wind on at least part of most days, our leaders Gillian and Chris did an excellent job in devising good routes, and even in amending them along the way. And this enabled all of us to enjoy a very good set of wanders in this remote Northwest corner of the Lake District. A beautiful area.

Hassness itself is in a wonderful location and sits right by the shore of Buttermere. An excellent range of walks lead off from there into the surrounding fells, and with the bonus that it is a very comfortable base that is so well run by Brian, Carol and Ruby. In all, a very cosy base for Christmastime. Excellent food, first rate walking and good company – what more could anyone ask for? A real treat.

Beyond that, I will let the few photos I took along the way speak for themselves.
