One of the first things we recommend organisations to check is the size of their water meter. The Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat) states that all business customers must have a meter. Your water and wastewater charges are based on the volume of water you use, plus a fixed charge based on the size of your meter.
Many organisations don’t have an appropriate sized meter for their needs as water consumption can change over time. For instance, your business activities may have changed or you have installed new equipment that uses more or less water.
Consider installing a smart data logger on your water meter. That will give you very accurate data on your water consumption and help you measure any water savings or losses you make.
Advice on water meters will be available from your supplier. It is better though to ask an independent company to carry out a free evaluation of your water and sewerage usage and charges.
If you’re unsure about your water meter and the size you should be using we would be more than happy to help.
