It was reported recently that 81 per cent of consumers in the UK believe that small independently or locally owned businesses provide the best customer service experience. As a small, independent company that was great to hear.
However, it also reflects what we find when we are buying. As a company, we make every effort to buy British and as locally as possible. In this very British ‘Jubilympic’ summer, we’d like to flag some of our favourite suppliers. They are expert at what they do and lovely people to do business with.
Creators of the bespoke sofas in our Rotunda apartments.
Like us, naughtone set up in 2005 and have since taken the contemporary furniture world by storm. We love their designs and the fact that they are headquartered near Harrogate and carry out their manufacturing there. But there’s more; the hardwood used in the production of their frames for upholstered products is sourced from a sustainably managed forest in Harrogate. The timber, frame building and upholstery is all processed within a 20 mile radius and naughtone use fabrics from Britain. Simply brilliant.
Eclectic Chair Aka the wonderful Heather who makes all of our cushions and curtains. Under the Eclectic Chair banner, Heather repholsters vintage furniture and transforms it into something funky and beautiful. Utterly unique and well worth checking out.
Eclectic Chair is based in Leeds.
Urban Coffee Company An indy coffee company and suppliers of the coffee in our Rotunda apartments. With two coffee shops in Birmingham, Urban Coffee are taking on the big corporate coffee chains in the city. They’re speedy and efficient - they Tweet us when a delivery is on its way! And we like the cut of their social responsibility jib.
It’s currently English Wine Week (2-10 June, 2012) and the advance publicity for this prompted us to try some ourselves. We were impressed and set up a give away to guests of Chapel Down’s Flint Dry white which is made in Kent. And, going forward, we have decided to add English wine to our bookable extras menu at our Rotunda serviced apartments in Birmingham.
Delicious wine, supporting English wine producers and less food miles. Result.
