Tirolean Summer – July 25th – August 8th
The multi-grade, (it reads like motor oil!) Tirolean Summer, in the Stubai Valley brought people together who would not normally meet in a single grade holiday. The programmes were varied and all had the opportunity to try the various grades, although I stuck with the D / D+.
The dual team of Eileen and Paul Lyons was excellent, and the variety of walks met all the party’s needs. The hotel looked after us well and the added attraction of returning from a walk, and then sitting down with a cake and coffee, did put pressure on Eileen to get the walkers back to the hotel in time.
The cable car system allowed the D / D+ walkers to enjoy the heights of the Alps, and several of our sojourns were along balcony walks. One of the highlights was the journey to the top of the Stubai glacier, with the wonderful views all around and the sensation of walking on snow in the middle of summer.
The days were long, but this was due to the several visits to huttes and alm houses, where the hospitality was friendly, and you had the opportunity to try the local delicacies.
Once again, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays surpassed themselves with a very well organised holiday and having chosen an excellent hotel is always beneficial. Whether it is the challenges of reaching the highest peaks, the leisurely rambles along the balcony paths, or the attraction of the alpine flowers, there is something for everyone on this holiday. Where next?
