‘Sales is a great first step on the career ladder’ claims Tom Harris of London Sales Execs

Award-winning entrepreneur and owner at London Sales Execs, Tom Harris has revealed that he considers sales to be a significant first step on the career ladder.

London Sales Execs: About the firm

At London Sales Execs, their mission is to change the perception of sales. The firm believes that sales is woven into the fabric of society. To communicate is human, and so is sales. At London Sales Execs they utilise the human element to deliver marketing solutions that make an impact.

Now in graduate season, where many people are looking to make the transition from education into business, Mr Harris believes that graduates should consider sales for their first job.

According to a Forbes article, 20% of CEO’s come from a sales and marketing role.Business magnate, investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet, started his career by selling. As a child, he sold chewing gum and magazines door-to-door.

Mr Harris has revealed the three reasons for people to enter the sales field.

1. Sales is everywhere!

The ability to sell is the cornerstone of success in any professional pursuit. Mr Harris argues that there is an element of sales in everything. "It might not be directly selling a product, but during an interview, you’re selling yourself. If you’re an entrepreneur with a business idea, you’re selling that proposal to investors. Sales is everywhere, be it directly or indirectly,” commented Mr Harris.

2.Confidence

Self-confidence is imperative for business success. Working in sales, people have to strike up conversations with strangers and turn them into customers. Having the ability to speak to anyone is a great confidence builder. Closing deals is a great way to build that confidence and it can subsequently play an integral role in achieving both personal and professional success.

3. Communication

To sell requires excellent communication. Mr Harris believes that a career in sales exposes someone to different types of people, learning how to adapt and tailor their pitch to communicate effectively and make the deal.Working in sales allows someone to continually practice and get better at speaking and connecting to people. Being an effective communicator is a trait of great leaders, and that is one of the great things that sales teach someone.

London Sales Execs is a diverse group with one common goal: achieve the best possible outcome for clients through meaningful, face-to-face connections, delivered by its force of talented customer communicators. They are passionate about sales and changing the way sales is perceived. Mr Harris believes the industry teaches many valuable life skills and he is urging graduates to consider sales as a first job.
