Brother UK is one of 230 organisations to be successful this year, and this marks the second time it has won in the sustainable development category, after it also picked-up the coveted award in 2011. The company attributes its success in the awards to an ethos built around ‘doing the right thing’.
This involves empowering staff, working with local communities, business continuity planning and being environmentally responsible. These are all factors that have improved commercial performance and sustainable development practices over the past 2 – 5 years, meeting key requirements of the Award’s eligibility criteria.
Phil Jones, Managing Director of Brother UK said, “we’re delighted to win a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for the second time – the ultimate recognition for our commitment to sustainable development, one of the highest awards you can win in the country recognising organisations with long-term capability.
“Our fundamental purpose is to make the people and businesses we work with more successful, more quickly, which, in turn, has made our own business sustainable and adaptable over five decades. I’m so proud to be leading this company at this most significant time, and for it to be recognised with this most prestigious award as we celebrate our Golden anniversary year.”
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Brother UK’s sustainability successes to date include continuous annual reductions in fuel usage, the use of renewable energy on site, and achieving zero waste to landfill for eight successive years. It is also one of the few organisations in the country to achieve Investors in People ‘Platinum’ status, recognising the investments it makes in its people and their potential.
A team from Brother UK has been invited to a special reception at Buckingham Palace this summer, which will be hosted by Her Majesty The Queen. The award will be presented by one of The Queen’s Lord-Lieutenants, and will be valid for five years.
