Council and McDonald’s team up for litter pick

The Fernhill area of Bury is looking brighter following a community clean-up by staff from McDonald’s and Bury Council.

McDonald’s have Planet Champions who volunteer to improve local areas. The council supports companies and groups who want to make a difference to Bury, providing equipment and disposing of the rubbish collected.

Janine Bowling, manager at McDonald’s on The Rock, and her team of volunteers collected 12 bags of litter from footpaths around Hornby Street, Bright Street, Cateaton Street and Vernon Street, with help from Ian Rogers, recycling officer with the council.

Ian said: “It’s great that enthusiastic employees of McDonald’s gave up their own time to help improve our environment. Although it was a messy job, everybody enjoyed the experience and made a noticeable improvement to the streets we were on.”

Fernhill residents will be seeing a lot more of the recycling awareness team over the next few months, as part of an area campaign to help people recycle more.
