Labour retain Besses ward in by-election

Andrea Simpson retained Besses ward for Labour in last night’s (Thursday 4 May) Bury Council by-election which was held following the resignation of councillor Alan Matthews.

The result:

  • Janneke Calle (The Green Party).....86
  • Stephen Morris (English Democrats: “Putting England First!”)...188
  • Andrea Simpson (Labour Party)...1,371
  • Satyen Sinha (The Conservative Party)...682
  • Gavin Warnes (Liberal Democrats)...415

The turnout was 34%. The line-up on Bury Council remains: Labour 31 seats, Conservatives 16, and Liberal Democrats 3, with one vacancy.
