Netherlands artist unveils exhibition at Bury Sculpture Centre

One of the Netherlands’ most prominent artists is unveiling his new show at Bury Sculpture Centre this weekend.

Auke de Vries has established an international reputation through exhibitions and numerous public commissions, creating unique and intriguing pieces across the world including Berlin, Barcelona and The Hague.

He has also been an advisor on the reconstruction of the city of Esslingen am Neckar, Germany, and was Professor of Fine Art at both the Royal Academy of Visual Arts, The Hague and at the Rijksacademie, Amsterdam.

This exhibition in Bury runs from 6 February to 4 June and includes 25 works plus 20 framed drawings. Three new works have been made for this show, including a maquette for his potential new public art commission at Burrs Country Park.

Commissioned by Tony Trehy, Bury Art Museum director, this exhibition is only de Vries’ second show in the UK since his exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in 2001.

The exhibition is supported by The Henry Moore Foundation,The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in London, and the Mondrian Fund.

Bury Art Museum is in Moss Street, Bury. It is open Tuesday–Friday (10am to 5pm) and Saturday (10am to 4.30pm). Admission is free and the museum is fully accessible.
