​New head of operations appointed

Donna Ball has been appointed Executive Director of Operations at Bury Council.

She will be in charge of a large number of frontline services: from waste and recycling to highways and street lighting, parks and green spaces, engineers and parking, environmental health, cleaning and catering, and civic venues.

Donna is currently Deputy Director of Place at Bolton Council, responsible for many frontline and commercial services, and will be taking up her new role in Bury in the New Year.

Donna has worked for Bolton Council for more than 13 years, mostly as Assistant Director Community Services. This covered areas such as waste and recycling, Bolton markets, Bolton Albert Halls, the bereavement service, Heaton Fold Garden Centre, fleet maintenance, social needs transport, school services and many other frontline services.

Before that, she worked for Manchester City Council as Head of Waste and Contract Management and as their Partnerships Manager (Environmental Consortium), for Greater Manchester Waste Authority (Communications Manager) and Oldham Council (Special Projects Officer).

At Bolton, Donna was also chair of the Domestic Violence partnership, Armed Forces lead and lead for culture, so brings a wide breadth of experience across many varied services. Donna was recently awarded the INSPIRE Inspirational Woman of the Year Award for her efforts to support disadvantaged women and girls in her community.

Dave Brown, who has been serving as interim director of operations for the last 13 months, will continue in this role until Donna’s arrival.

Geoff Little, chief executive of Bury Council, said: “Donna takes charge of a department that provides vital frontline services to the whole community, from roads to bins and the environment, and we are looking forward to welcoming her to Bury in the New Year.”
