Residents urged to make sure they are registered to vote

Press Release   •   Feb 15, 2016 10:50 GMT

Bury Council is encouraging residents who are not yet registered to vote to go online and register their details.

On Thursday 5 May voters from across the borough will go to the polls to elect their local councillors. There could also be an ‘in/out’ referendum on the EU later this year, but residents who are not registered will not be able to have their say.

Mike Owen, returning officer and electoral registration officer, said: “Anyone not yet registered to vote should register as soon as possible. Not only do we have local government elections in May, but later this year there could also be a once in a lifetime opportunity to have your say in an EU referendum.”

The deadline to register to vote in May is 18 April. Registering online is quick and easy - simply go to www.gov.uk/registertovote and input your date of birth and National Insurance details.
