The ABC of Capitalism at Bury Sculpture Centre

A new exhibition from acclaimed Finnish artist Riiko Sakkinen opens shortly at Bury Sculpture Centre.

Running from 12 November 2016 to 18 March 2017, this exhibition has been commissioned specially for the sculpture centre and is called “The ABC of Capitalism”.

This will be the venue’s second show featuring Finnish artwork following the popular “New Narrative and Reader” in early 2015.

In this exhibition, Sakkinen looks at the nature of capitalism and its relationship with democracy, freedom, society and culture.

The exhibition features a temporary ‘classroom’ where visitors can imagine being instructed on the ways of capitalism, alongside three murals of Disney figures praising the joys of capitalism.

Sakkinen will be painting 13 huge portraits, on site at Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre. The “Heroes of Capitalism” series celebrates people who have shaped and defended capitalism, from politicians and generals to philosophers and business magnates.

The opening event on Saturday 12 November from 1.30pm will feature a live interactive performance piece for the exhibition.

Bury Sculpture Centre is open Tuesday–Friday (10am to 5pm) and on Saturday (10am to 4.30pm). Admission is free and the museum is fully accessible. It is located on Moss Street in Bury Town Centre.
