Cafe to employ homeless people

Cafe Art is supporting a new venture in Turnpike Lane, north London which will employ people affected by homelessness.

Run by Shine Enterprise Centre, the public are being asked to support the cafe by pledging money in a crowdfunding campaign at www.spacehive.com/shine-cafe

They hope to raise £30,000 to set up the cafe.

The online crowdfunding project is being officially launched on Tuesday 4 July and will run for two months.

People who contribute any amount are welcome to come by for a coffee on us once the café is up and running, or have their name on a plaque for contributions of £50 or more. We aim to complete fundraising by August and then start bringing the café to life straight away.

Shine have identified our first trainee – a local man experiencing difficulties with homelessness. We aim to support him to find long-term employment. He will be the first of many people affected by homelessness we will invite to join us working in the café in a supported environment.

In collaboration with Café Art, we want to give local people who may have been facing issues with homelessness, alcohol, drugs and mental health the opportunity to gain barista and café management skills and find long term employment. 

The Shine Centre is located at 89-91 Turnpike Lane and has been set up as a multipurpose social and small business hub, which now runs daily wellbeing sessions and local art exhibitions and offers work experience opportunities to Haringey residents. 

The Shine Centre is supported by Haringey Advisory Group on Alcohol (HAGA) and was set up with a capital grant from Public Health England and Haringey Council.
