Prompt action by Cashzone supports swift re-opening of Polesworth Spar following futile ram-raid attempt

Press Release   •   Oct 18, 2012 09:30 BST

London, 17 October 2012 – Cashzone, the leading provider of ATMs to the UK’s retail convenience sector has helped a local Polesworth Spar store owner to quickly renovate and return to trading following a damaging JCB ram-raid earlier this summer.

Working closely with the store’s owners and North Warwickshire Borough Council, Cashzone installed a new cash machine while refurbishment was still underway; having it up and running in time for the formal store re-opening later this month.

Despite extensive structural damage to the building, the owners have proved resilient in the face of adversity: “It was a shocking, audacious attack not only on the shop, but the community at large”.

“We were determined to not let these criminals deny our customers the crucial service we provide and the life-line which the ATM gives to local residents. We’re fortunate that Cashzone has been a dependable partner in working with us to quickly get back to business.”

In addition to installing the new machine, Cashzone worked with the police and the Council and will install security bollards to deter any future attacks, plus other security devices which provide additional protection to the site and the cash machine in conjunction with Police response. “Ram-raids of this type are rare – and inevitably unsuccessful, but the damage to the retailer and the community can be extensive,” said Cashzone’s  Convenience Retail Director, Alastair Mayne.

“We will always support our customers and the wider community to get the ATM up and running again as soon as possible” The ram-raiders also targeted the local HSBC in Atherstone, a busy Warwickshire market town. In both cases no cash was lost, the Spar ATM was recovered and the criminals apprehended by police.

Cashzone is the fastest growing independent cash machine operator and market leader in the convenience sector with an estate of more than 6,500 ATMs across the UK.

Part of the Payzone Group, Cashzone was formed through the strategic amalgamation of Cardpoint, Moneybox, Travelex and most recently, OmniCash. It operates out of the new Southall centre in West London with its HQ in the City and offices in Cheshire and Cramlington in the North East.

Cashzone serves many of the UK’s premium retail, transport, property and leisure brands, with a corporate customer portfolio including McDonalds, Roadchef and BT. It is the ATM market leader in the convenience retail sector and partners major grocery brands such as Waitrose and Booths.
