Center Parcs Sherwood Forest faces the snow

Press Release   •   Jan 13, 2010 00:00 GMT

The beginning of 2010 has seen snow and icy conditions sweep through the UK. Like everyone else Center Parcs felt the freeze, however, due to the hard work and dedication of staff, Center Parcs Sherwood Forest remained open and operational throughout the conditions, using the most ingenious ideas to battle the most unpredictable conditions.

With over 23 years experience, it is understood at Sherwood Forest that when the weather is unforgiving, innovative methods and committed individuals are essential to give families visiting even in the coldest of months, the best break they can have.

Here are just some of the methods Sherwood Forest used to cope with the snow:

  • Cat litter was used as grit to get staff into work
  • Many members of staff showed their commitment by walking up to 13 miles to work
  • 14 Leaf-blowers were used to blow snow off guests’ cars in the car park
  • Over 90 members of staff stayed on the villages for several nights keeping the village running
  • Over 100 shovels, 40 snow squeegees and 50 brushes were used
  • Over 100 staff (at Sherwood Forest and from Head Office) helped dig out villa loops and snow in the guest car park to allow guests to move their cars easily
  • Police commandeered the village snow plough, gritter and team members to clear local roads

Karen Henderson, General Manager of Sherwood Forest says:

“We have had some challenging weather conditions over the years and this has to have been one of the most challenging but we are proud to say that despite these harsh weather conditions, we stayed open and operational. It is thanks to a committed fantastic team of colleagues mucking in where they could so that we could continue to give our guests a quality short break experience. Despite the operational challenges, the forest looked beautiful and our guests had a fantastic time”.
