Solicitors attack MoD. Millions of ££ later, MoD fights back!

Birmingham Mail reports that the law firm "Public Interest Lawyers" has made £900,000

from a £31 million investigation into false claims that British soldiers murdered and tortured Iraqi civilians.

The firm's position is that their action was “legally necessary, morally justified and politically required.”

You can see the Birmingham Mail's story here.

However, the government says that the allegations of murder and torture were the product of “deliberate lies, reckless speculation and ingrained hostility.”

So now the MoD is looking to recoup some of the millions of pounds paid to the law firms who represented the now discredited "victims."

The defence secretary Michael Fallon is up in arms:  he's demanding an “unequivocal apology” to the soldiers whose reputations “they attempted to traduce.’’

According to the Telegraph, "The two legal firms involved, Public Interest Lawyers (PIL) and Leigh Day & Co, both denied any wrong doing. Last night spokesman for the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA) said it was investigating both firms." See the complete article here.

HUGE implications for us all as this debate rages on. We'll keep you up to date on this here!
